Work on the city budget continues and right now they’re looking at a two per cent increase in municipal taxes, which would keep the hike at the rate of inflation.

That from Budget Chief Sheldon Forgette, who says that has been his goal all along.

He says staff has done most of the work to this point and now it’s up to council to get down to business.

Forgette expects to have the operating budget passed by the end of the calendar year.

He says the final public consultation came this week at a public meeting, with only one presentation made.

Forgette says his experience is that public interest only increases when the proposed increase is larger.
