Growing the Bioeconomy — Combatting Climate Change” is the theme for the Biomass North AGM and Forum.

The three day event starts tomorrow (Monday) at the Clarion.

Executive Director of the Biomass North Development Centre Dawn Lambe says the Bioeconomy is all about converting fossil fuel based production to renewable, sustainable and biological resources.

Here in the north that would be forestry.

“I’m personally excited to see things really happening, I think this is one of the best things that can happen, particularily for northern Ontario in terms of creating value-added jobs and real economic prosperity in small communities in the north,” she added.

Events over the next three days include a Climate Action Forum, Gala Awards dinner, Community Seminars, skills and training workshops, a trade show, research symposium and job fair too.

Lambe says there is going to be a big shift in the demographics of those working in the industry. “We’re going to be looking at massive retirements. The sector is changing and transforming to a high-tech sector so there’s a huge need for young people to connect to these jobs that are opening up and will be opening up.”

About 100 people are expected for the AGM and Forum.
