Blue-Green Algae detected

The Health Unit advises that a bloom of blue-green algae has been detected in the West Arm of Lake Nipissing in the Municipality of West Nipissing.

Residents and visitors are advised to avoid using water from the lake for drinking, cooking and bathing.

They point out that boiling the water or using home water treatment devices will NOT destroy the toxins.

Also avoid swimming and other water sport activities in that area and don’t use the water for livestock or pets.
