Donor registration at 53 per cent in North Bay

Organ donor registration is a popular activity in North Bay.

In fact the Trillium Gift of Life Network says North Bay has a 53 per cent registration rate.

That’s the highest in the province and well above the provincial average of 30 per cent which is a first for Ontario.

Ronnie Gavsey the president and CEO says North Bay’s rate has gone up 6 full points in 5 years.

She says that’s out of 170 communities.

Gavsey says another good sign is in 2011 no communities were at 50 per cent and now there are eight including North Bay, Sudbury, Nipissing South and Nipissing North.

She says when you’re over 50 per cent you have normanalized organ donation as a shared value.
