The city has named its new fire chief.

Jason Whiteley will assume his position in 3 weeks.

His most recent position was in Woodstock where’s he has been deputy chief since 2015.

In a release, the city says he has 27 years of fire service experience as well as management of operations, emergency management and response, fire prevention and education and business administration.

He says he is looking forward to working closely with the team at fire and emergency services and contributing to the corporate strategic initiatives as part of senior management.

The release says Whiteley will provide oversight and leadership to all functions of fire and emergency services including financial and operational. fire suppression, communications, fire prevention and safety.

The interim CAO Lea Janisse says Whiteley is highly qualified and will be a great asset for the city.
