StreetART at Macs

Creative teenagers and young adults are being called on to take part in a street art event starting Monday.

A Toronto street artist will help those involved prepare the base of a mural that will be painted on the outside wall of Mac’s Convenience Store at Cassells and O’Brien.

City police Corporate Communications Coordinator Marie Lugli says the idea is to turn graffiti “tags” into a work of art, with permission from business owners to produce a mural.

She says the artist will talk to the youth about what graffiti damage has done to businesses and more.

Officials say the concept has seen positive results in other areas, in terms of crime reduction and community beautification.

Those interested in taking part are asked to be at the Mac’s at O’Brien and Cassells at 10 am Monday.

The mural will be unveiled on Wednesday.
