Kinsmen Trail Sink hole

The Conservation Authority says a sinkhole on the Kinsmen Trail behind Chippewa Secondary School has led to the closure of that portion of the trail.

Officials say a failed culvert, along with the rain, is causing erosion under the trail. It’s closed until work can be done to repair the area.

Barricades and detour are in place.

Trail users will have to detour the trail by following Chippewa St. W. in front of the high school between High St and the north parking lot of the school.

Work on repairing the trail is expected to begin in the next few days.

The 7.2 km Kinsmen Trail follows the shoreline of Chippewa Creek from Airport Road to Amelia Beach on Lake Nipissing.

It includes the 3.2 km Chippewa Creek EcoPath, a community initiative to restore and enhance the natural and heritage values of the creek through stewardship and education.
