restore your shore

If you’re looking to get involved in the Restore Your Shore program, the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority wants to hear from you.

The fall planting season begins at the end of the month and properties across the Conservation Authority’s jurisdiction are eligible.

Communications and Outreach Supervisor Sue Buckle says they planted on about 20 properties in the spring and are looking for about 10 to 15 more for the fall planting season. “The reception has been really positive, people are actually saying this is too good to be true. This is one of those instances where too good to be true, is true.”

Last week, the program was presented with a cheque for $5,000 from the Greater Nipissing Stewardship Council.

The money will keep a student planter on staff to complete the fall planting season.

The goal of the program is to reduce erosion and runoff of nutrients and soil into waterways.
