Construction of the Health Unit’s new $15-million building on Oak Street West

 

A huge jump in building permits in the city.

Total building values were over $47-million in the first five months of the year, a jump of 79 percent over last year and 200 percent from the same time in 2014.

Some of the larger projects include the $5.5-million Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Fire Management Facility at the Airport Industrial Park, a new $12-million hotel, the $15-million Health Unit building (pictured) and $6.6 million in residential permits.

“Incredible strong start to the year, thanks to large projects in our city,” stated Mayor Al McDonald. “We are hearing from investors and developers that there continues to be a lot of interest in our city. Council and staff’s number one priority is building the city. This focus and strategy is paying dividends for our community.”
