Amendment to the councillor pay raise plan involves the ABC's

Councillors will be receiving a pay raise in the New Year, but there is also potential for money to be saved for the tax payer.

That’s according to Councillor George Maroosis.

He put forward an amendment to the proposal regarding the Agencies, Boards and Commissions.

With some ABC’s a stipend is paid by the province to those who sit on the various committees – and a large portion of that stipend is paid by the province.

Maroosis says this could recoup about $40,000 for the city.

He says they should take that stipend and put it back into the city’s budget instead of going onto a councillor’s cheque.
