There will be a special event to mark 9/11 at this years South River/Machar Agricultural Society fall fair.

September 11th falls on a Friday this year and organizer Suzanne Learn says there will be a Parade of Heroes in the evening in South River to honor firefighters and other first responders. She says every firefighter in the Almaguin Highlands area has been invited to take part in the parade and there will be a special ceremony honoring three firefighters who are receiving their 25 year pins.

Learn says the parade starts from the South River Fire Hall at 6:30pm and then once it wraps up at the fairgrounds there will be the ceremony and then children’s games including prizes including having the most pictures with firefighters.

Learn says the evening wraps up with a youth dance.

Learn says on Saturday there are all kinds of activities including a climbing wall, inflatables, exhibits, music and many vendors.
