iwd_squareThe culmination of International Women’s Week will be on the West Ferris overpass Friday.

It’s called Join Me on the Bridge and North East Women’s Health Alliance president Kathleen Jodouin says this peaceful event is an opportunity to acknowledge the status of women in our community

Jodouin says the opening ceremonies are at 1130 at The Holy Name Church on Memorial Drive and then everyone will proceed to the overpass where they’ll build a bridge of peace.

Other events this week including the screening of a documentary on global sex trafficking and events at Nipissing University.

She says next Tuesday will be the annual EVE-olution at Chippewa Secondary School.

Jodouin says there have been many improvements for women in Canada but there are issues that still need to be addressed like violence against women,  availability of child care and the plight of aboriginal women.

In fact, there will be a moment to reflect on the number of missing and murdered aborignal women currently numbered at 1200.
