Expect the smokey haze to continue today in the city.

That’s the word from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry which says smoke drift from a fire in Parry Sound is reaching the city.

North Bay Fire Chief Jason Whiteley issued a release Thursday night saying fires west of the city and Parry Sound are causing the smoke in the air here.

He said there was no structural or forest fire in the North Bay area.

The ministry says with active fires we can expect smoky conditions to continue across the region, until weather patterns change.

They report 19 new fire starts in the Northeast Region yesterday, with 19 fires also declared out.

The total number of active fires in the region is 66, with 32 not yet under control.

A couple of fires continue to burn in the River Valley Cluster, there were two new fires in the Temagami area.

Official say one is already out, along several others in that area because of the hard work of fire fighting crews.

North Bay 69, which recently caused the evacuation of about 20 homes in the Temagami area, remains under control with crews checking for hot spots.

They also say there was minimal growth with North Bay 72, which is burning in the Lady Evelyn area.

The ministry says contact TeleHealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 if you have questions or concerns about smoke and your health.
