North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says North Bay Fire Services is working with the fire management team at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry regarding any assistance with the forest fires in the Temagami area.
McDonald says North Bay’s emergency management plan has been activated.

‘Our fire chief and deputy chief are in contact with the fire department in Temagami. We stand ready to assist if a formal request comes in. At this point there hasn’t been a request,” he says.

He reminds people about the fire ban in North Bay that remains in place.

“Just because it’s so dry out there. We’re monitoring the situation. There’s no threat in North Bay but with the dry conditions we have to be so careful,” he says.

He says the city is monitoring developments and will update the public as new information comes in.

Meantime, the forest fires are currently impacting mail delivery to Marten River and Temagami in Northern Ontario.

All mail and parcels will be held securely until plans are in place. Delivery will resume once conditions improve and it is safe to do so.
