OPP have confirmed one person has died in the collision on Highway 17 West this morning.

Police say a transport hit a rock cut about 6:30 and they have closed Highway 17 West from Lively to Whitefish for the investigation.

RR55 is your detour but traffic is quite backed up and officers have no estimation on when Highway 17 will be open.

Meantime, OPP are now on the scene of a second fatal collision along Highway 17 near Hagar.

Police say at 10:20 a.m. officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a tractor trailer on Highway 17, east of Markstay.
The driver of the SUV was confirmed deceased at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer suffered minor injuries.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway in that area remain closed until the investigation is complete.
There is a detour in place at Highway 537 in Wahnapitae as well as at Highway 535 in Hagar.
