In 8 weeks North Bay will be hosting the world as the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship will be starting in North Bay.
Co-chair of the local organizing committee Rick Miller says tickets for the final weekend are 75 per cent sold.
“It’s looking very, very good. In our recent meetings with Curling Canada we’re on track to set an attendance record for the world women’s curling championship,” he says.
Miller says if every draw is sold out 104,000 people would be going through Memorial Gardens for the event.
They’re over 60,000 already.
There will also be plenty of exposure for the city.
Miller says the city’s logo will be on the ice for all the action.
“World Curling Television broadcasts this event to 20-25 countries around the world so every time the camera goes down the ice you’ll see the city of North Bay,” he says.
Some teams that have been confirmed include Eve Muirhead from Scotland, Silvana Tirinzoni from Switzerland and Anna Sederova from Russia.
He says a final official list isn’t expected for a couple of weeks.
The list of 400 volunteers includes 300 from North Bay and area and 100 from outside the area.
