The North Bay Military Wives choir will be front and centre Saturday at the opening of the Invictus Games in Toronto.

As we told you in June the local choir is joining with military wives choirs from across Canada to sing at the Opening Ceremonies.

Earlier this week, the national flag tour for the games stopped in North Bay.

Yvan Wanis-Ruiz  is spokesperson for the Invictus Games.

He says there are events that are unique to the games.

“There’s the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge so it’s an actual obstacle course that you see. The Indoor Rowing… it is so tense to watch these guys. There is wheel chair rugby.”

Wanis-Ruiz says the participants are very competitive as they use sport to find themselves again and when you see that it’s something to see.

He says there will be 550 competitors taking part in 12 different sports over an 8 day period.

“People using sport to find themselves again. And when you see that combined with the level of sport it’s something to see. It’s a unique event…a very unique and special event.”
He says the competitors are retired or active service members who have been injured in the line of service or as as a consequence of their service.
