Near North District School Board Trustees will be deciding later this month whether or not to close Widdifield Secondary School.

Board chair David Thompson says they’ll have a recommendation to that effect following a committee meeting this week.

“The recommendation is coming from that committee to the board meeting on the 26th recommending reducing 3 schools down to 2 and those schools being West Ferris and Chippewa,” he says.

Thompson says not everyone agreed at the meeting with the decision, but this is what the committee decided to do.

As for when Widdifield would close, should the board support the committee’s decision, Thompson says the Director of Education will be coming up with a report at a future meeting on next steps.

Earlier in the process, an Accommodations Review Committee (File photo above) recommended the board close Chippewa and keep West Ferris and Widdifield open.
