Fifty years ago tomorrow, “Light My Fire” by The Doors hit Number One on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the first song guitarist Robby Krieger ever wrote. Krieger says singer Jim Morrison was writing all the songs and told the rest of them to try writing for once. When Krieger asked what he should write about, Morrison suggested something timeless. Krieger wanted to write about the four elements, and he chose fire because he liked the Rolling Stones song “Play With Fire.” Rhino Records is releasing a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl version of “Light My Fire” today, as well as a streaming maxi-single with three versions of the song.
