One in six Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year and twelve will die from it today.

Officials with the Nipissing Motorcycle Ride For Dad say that’s too many so they’re once again raising funds for prostate cancer research and awareness.

Co-chair John Strang (pictured) says their message is simple.

“A lot of men are diagnosed when it’s too late so the message that we carry is create awareness, get it checked. It’s not embarrasing, it’s as simple as a PSA test (or) a prostate exam,” he says.

The 10th annual Nipissing Motorcycle Ride For Dad goes June 17th with hundreds of riders and non-riders expected.

Strang says there’s also another event being held the week before.

“This will be our 10th annual car wash and bbq at the McKeown Gas Bar on Algonquin, it’s really good visibility for our ride and that’s what we’re about, we’re about creating awareness,” he says.

Last year Nipissing Motorcycle Ride For Dad raised over $30,000.

The goal is $40,000 this year.
