The Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team has advanced to the OUA championship.

This after a 3-2 overtime win over Toronto in game two of their semifinal series with the Varsity Blues.

Brooklyn Irwin scored the winning goal for the Lakers 12:12 into the extra frame.

Nipissing now awaits the winner of the Guelph-Waterloo series.

The Gryphons lead that semifinal 1-0.  Game two is this afternoon.

 

In the OHL, the North Bay Battalion lost 4-1 in Mississauga last night.

Brett McKenzie scored the lone goal for North Bay, his 28th on the season.

The Troops are 9th in the Eastern Conference with 49 points, one back of Ottawa and Niagara who also lost last night.

North Bay is home to Hamilton tomorrow afternoon.

 

The Powassan Voodoos began a northern road trip with a 4-3 overtime loss in Cochrane last night.

Andy Baker had two goals for the Voodoos with Ryan Theriault also scoring.

Powassan is in Iroquois Falls tonight then Timmins tomorrow.

 

The Great North Midget League championship series begins tonight at Memorial Gardens.

Game one between the host North Bay AAA Trappers and Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves goes at 7:30 pm.

Game two goes Sunday in North Bay.
