The Health Unit is advising the public not to drink water from Lee’s Creek.

This after PFAS have been detected in Trout Lake, Lee’s Creek, the airport, CFB North Bay and monitoring wells located near the base.

Officials say levels of PFAS detected in Trout Lake, and in the city’s municipal water supply are below Health Canada’s Drinking Water Screening Values.

Levels in Lee’s Creek are above Health Canada’s values.

The Health Unit is working with the Department of National Defence to have private water wells in the vicinity of CFB North Bay/Airport area and Lee’s Creek sampled.

PFAs are man-made substances.

They are found in a variety of consumer and industrial products such as adhesives, cosmetics, cleaning products, and in specialized chemical applications, such as fire-fighting foams.

Recently, DND tested the water in response to the use of chemical substances used for firefighting testing over a 20 year period ending in the mid 1990’s.
