The second fastest improving secondary school in Ontario, according the Fraser Institute’s Compare School Rankings, is West Ferris.

Their rating improved from 4.8 to 6.9, which is tops locally.

That ranks West Ferris 243rd out of 740 secondary schools in Ontario.

The rankings are based on seven academic indicators from math and literacy test results.

West Ferris is one of three North Bay Secondary Schools currently the focus of an Accommodations Review Committee (ARC) process.

At a public meeting last week, many people said they could not support the south end of the city not having a secondary school.

Chippewa and Widdifield are the two other secondary schools involved in the process.

Another public meeting goes in May.

The ARC is also reviewing E.T. Carmichael, E.W. Norman and W.J. Fricker Public Schools.

A staff report proposes merging the three secondary schools into one new build on the Chippewa site, while merging the three other schools into another build on the Fricker site.
