Nipissing University is gearing up for a year of celebrations.

In December 2017 they’ll be marking the 25th anniversary of receiving their charter.

University President and Vice Chancellor Dr Mike DeGagné says prior to getting the charter they were essentially a satellite of Laurentian University.

“In 1992 we were given the opportunity to exist under our own charter, to grant our own degrees and since then we’ve developed a thriving undergraduate program, undergraduate degrees and now a PhD,”
he said.

Meantime, MPP Vic Fedeli had an office at Nipissing back then, as he did fundraising for them.

He says the University has grown so much, pointing out back then a party for faculty and staff was held in someone’s house.

“A quarter century later we’ve got thousands of students, hundreds of faculty and staff, research that’s being done that’s significant throughout the world. Who could’ve imagined 25 years ago with this tiny little idea,” Fedeli said.

Details on events will be announced throughout the year ahead but there will be a gala and a Time Capsule will be opened. A logo was officially unveiled at the University on Friday.
