Call it performance art about American consumerism or just a crime against humanity: On Black Friday, the makers of the popular NSFW game Cards Against Humanity raked in $100,573 by crowdfunding a massive (and pointless) hole in the ground. “As long as money keeps coming in, we’ll keep digging,“ the company promised on HolidayHole.com, a promotional splash page it set up for the stunt. “You might not get it for a while, but some time next year you’ll chuckle quietly to yourself and remember all this business about the hole.“ The livestreamed excavation didn’t end until Sunday thanks to so many people’s willingness to literally throw money down a hole.
