Hip day

Saturday is “Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip Day” in the City of North Bay.

That proclamation from Mayor Al McDonald as Laurentian Ski Hill and Deacon Wealth Management invite the community to their screening of the CBC and The Tragically Hip presentation of “The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration”.

“It’s an opportunity for the city to not only recognize The Tragically Hip and Mr. Downie, but to celebrate what Canada is all about and how his legacy is already starting to help others.” McDonald said.

The doors open to Saturday’s screening at 5 pm with local bands Break The Trend and Terrorbirds performing, bars will be set up with the live concert from Kingston being shown on the jumbo screens at starting at 8:30 pm.

Admission is free with general seating for 4,000 people.

Donations are being accepted for the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research and Laurentian Ski Hill.

Meantime, McDonald also says the event is showcasing how Memorial Gardens is becoming a Community Centre.

He says they’ll be actively going after concerts and use the building year-round with air conditioning installed so they can hold concerts and conventions.
