Employment conference

One of the interesting sessions at Wednesday’s Employment Conference in North Bay put by the Labour Market Group concerned the trends of how smaller communities like North Bay are creating jobs.

The guest speaker was Linda Nazareth.

She is a Senior Fellow for Economics and Population Change at the think tank The Macdonald-Laurier Institute.

She says North Bay is ahead of the curve in the sense that it has some of the ingredients for economic success including a college, a university, a downtown and a lot of other assets.

Still she says officials could be more proactive too letting people know what North Bay is all about.

She says the situation could also be improved with more tech jobs and dealing with the housing issue as well.
