Health Unit logoThe North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is advising residents of Chant Plein Lake to refrain from drinking water out of the lake.

They say there has been home heating oil leaching into the lake, located West of Mattawa.

They also advise residents who are near the lake and have wells that there wells may be at risk. If water from your well smells or has a visible sheen of oil do not drink it.

Officials say the current contamination is contained by ice to a small portion of the lake, but the weather condition could cause that to expand.
